Gift Wrap Organization 101

Now that most of your holiday shopping is done it’s time to start thinking about wrapping the gifts. Being organized makes gift wrapping a simple, stress-free task. There is plenty of time to purge and organize your gift wrap and be the first one with gifts under the tree.

PURGE  Get rid of items that are in bad shape from last year ex: smashed bows, pieces of torn gift wrap and items you no longer want or use. Make a list of what you need and only buy what you need.

SORT AND CONTAIN Use containers to sort frequently used items like bows, bags, tags, scissors and tape. Don’t forget to label the containers it will save you time when you are on the search for a card or gift bag at the last minute.

KEEP ALL GIFT WRAP TOGETHER  Choose an area in your home to keep all gift wrap items. Giving gifts is something that is done all year long so keeping it accessible and organized makes gift wrap quick and easy.

What Qualifies As Junk And How To Remove It

One question I’m frequently asked is “how do you know what should be donated and what is junk?” I have been a professional organizer for years and I know this can be a real struggle for many people. Part of my job is to help in the decision making process.

These are my five reasons on what makes something junk. Do any of these sound familiar?

Broken Items
Even though you have the best intentions of fixing a broken item it usually never happens and it becomes just another thing taking up space. If you have not fixed something within a reasonable amount of time, its junk!

Outdated Items
One good example of this is outdated electronics. It doesn’t work, can’t be fixed, and is taking up space, its junk.

Too costly to repair
If you want to repair something but it costs as much or more to repair than to replace it, its junk!

Items Ruined by The Elements
If you have boxes in your garage or attic that have been ruined by insects or mildew its junk!

No One Will Take It
Last but definitely not least, if no one and I mean no one wants the item, its junk! If you can’t sell it, donate it, swip swap it, or ebay it I think you see where I’m going with this, its junk!

Now that we determined what is junk the next step, which is very important, is getting rid of the junk. The company I use and recommend is 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. They offer full service junk removal which includes same day service if needed and they will work arond your schedule as an added convenience. They pick up from basement to attic and when everything is gone you get instant clutter free results. All you have to do is point, and the junk disappears! A huge value proposition of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is that the company will also donate items whenever possible, if they are in good condition.

1-800-GOT-JUNK? is also a great alternative to an unsitely dumpster when renovating a home. You will be amazed at how helpful they are in removing outdated items from the areas you are remodeling. You can also avoid all the inconveniences that come with a dumpster removal, as 1-800-GOT-JUNK? will remove all the junk so it doesn’t need to sit in a bin on your property and the team will also take care of all the heavy lifting!

5 Tips to Say Goodbye to Clothes From Your Past

Closets are a place that reveal who we are and who we were.

I’m always fascinated by the stories my clients share with me when we are clearing the closet clutter. Clothes can bring back memories, some good and some bad.

Two questions I’m often asked are, “what if they come back in style and what if I lose weight”.

I’ve thought about the reasoning behind these questions. Yes, things do go in and out of style through the years, but even if it comes back it won’t be the same style, fabric or color. If you haven’t worn it since it was originally popular let it go.

Weight also plays a big role on why people keep clothes that don’t fit anymore. Looking in your closet everyday staring at clothes you can no longer wear can affect your self esteem. Keep one thing that you love as inspiration, but let the rest go.

What is the reason you just can’t let go of those never worn clothes? Is it regret? Guilt? These emotions keep you from moving forward, even in your closet.

Are you finally ready to say goodbye to the never worn clothes that are taking up valuable space in your closet?

These are five tips to purge the past and bring your wardrobe into the present.

1. Make your fashion choices about who you are now and where you are in your life.

2. Do not keep anything in your closet that makes you feel bad when you put it on.

3. Just because it cost a lot of money does not mean you should keep it.

4. If it’s uncomfortable get rid of it because you won’t wear it.

5. Give yourself a few minutes to grieve over the mini skirt you use to wear or the four inch stillettos and then let them go.

It may be difficult to begin but when you have cleared the past from your closet it will leave you with only the things you love in the present.

Remember, even if your size hasn’t changed through the years, you maybe at a different time in your life and ready for a change.

The new you is just waiting to be discovered!
